In the online magazine Weerbaar!, our colleague Arjan van Velden shares insights about the project 100% Green Grown Floriculture. Within this initiative of the Versnellers Sierteelt foundation, growers, knowledge partners and companies collaborate on an important challenge: the transition towards an integrated and resilient cultivation system. The goal is to grow crops profitably using a combination of green, biological and technological solutions.
Florpartners supports this project by guiding several pilot trials. In these pilots, growers jointly explore ways to increase crop resilience and further reduce the use of chemical crop protection products. Knowledge sharing plays a key role in this process. Growers not only learn from their own trials, but also from the experiences of others. By openly sharing results, a flywheel effect is created that ultimately benefits the entire sector.
According to Arjan, this transition requires not only new technologies but also new ways of working together. Experimenting with alternative solutions sometimes means that an approach does not immediately deliver the expected results. However, these experiences provide valuable insights for future improvements. Through pilot projects, meetings and joint evaluations, these lessons are shared and further developed.
Currently, around twenty growers from different floriculture crops participate in the pilot project. At the same time, similar research is being carried out in the greenhouse vegetable sector. By exchanging knowledge between these sectors, solutions can be developed faster and applied more broadly.
The 100% Green Grown Floriculture project is co-financed by the European Union and the Province of South Holland and contributes to a more resilient and future-proof floriculture sector.
