Broekpolder2040

Broekpolder is an important horticulture region in and for Westland, with an acreage of 570 hectares. There is sufficient space for successful business and a pleasant living environment within the polder, but that requires smart spatial planning based on the separation of functions. This division does not simply come about, but requires a solid approach and close collaboration between the local authority, businesses, and residents. The planning process for Broekpolder2040 is characterised by a bottom-up approach, with land owners explicitly ‘in the lead’. A unique and groundbreaking process that can develop into an approach for other horticultural regions in the Netherlands. Coöperatie Broekpolder2040 is a cooperative of entrepreneurs and home owners in Broekpolder with the goal of joint development of a future-proof greenhouse horticulture region that offers a pleasant environment for living, working and recreation. The basis for this cooperative is a shared dream that has recently been elaborated further into a development perspective.

About the projects:

Regional development is a tough process. The interests are far-reaching and often varied. Thanks to our specialism of collaboration and our extensive knowledge of the horticulture cluster, we have developed a completely new strategy in which entrepreneurs and residents are explicitly ‘in the lead’, a bottom-up approach. Planning with a balance between living and working, with a sustainable and future-proof region as a result. Florpartners is bringing the land owners together. Together with the various authorities, we will arrive at a supported, realistic and feasible plan. We are working in collaboration with a coalition of ambitious people to bring about change.
